Custom Home + Inlaw's Laneway House
Kenorah worked with this extended family to plan and build a family friendly home and laneway house for the inlaws to suit the needs of both families.
Terence’s parents had hired Kenorah in the 1980’s to design and build the home HE grew up in, as a child. 30 years later, when he and his wife Emily were looking to build a home for THEIR young family, they called Kenorah again. We met to discuss their dreams for their future home. After our meeting, we came back and presented them with a thorough proposal outlining expected costs and timelines.
We commenced on design, and after some preliminary research, we realized that the location of the home meant that it would require significant geotechnical work and the installation of countless piles being pounded into the earth below the structure to support the home.
We designed the home to suit the current needs of the family, but also considered future lifestyle changes. As well as the home, we worked to design a beautiful laneway home for the parents.
Working with Terence and Emily, we specified all products, fixtures and finishes. From exterior design to the layout of the cabinet drawers in the kitchen, every single detail was planned in advance.
While waiting for the permit from the City of Vancouver, we worked to develop a plan for the build, incorporating the technically challenging logistics that are associated with building a home using piles. We scheduled and coordinated the trades, and by the time the permit was ready, we had completed the planning and design, and signed a Fixed-Price, Fixed-Schedule construction agreement.
We worked to manage the complex realities of the excavation and foundation process, while keeping the homeowner informed and educated throughout the process. Once the foundation was poured and backfilled, it was smooth sailing from that point on. With all decisions made prior to construction, our team was able to move quickly and efficiently. Terence and Emily were provided weekly updates to ensure everyone was aligned and informed at all times.
When Terence and Emily moved in to their beautiful new home, the team worked with them to teach them how to use their shiny new appliances and electrical/mechanical systems. Deficiencies were managed quickly.
This wonderful family now has their home to enjoy and build memories in for the next generation.
Thank you, Kenorah, for building us a home that we cherish and we hope our family will enjoy it for generations to come. The team completed their work with integrity, high quality, attention to detail and beautiful design. We highly recommend Kenorah for anyone considering a custom-build or renovation.
